Virai Mining Support and Deep Mining Teams

Virai either build their own mining equipment for their work – and combat – or those of other nations they find and scavenge. As they tend to destroy Antarean nanospore, the tools and weapons they scavenge and repurpose are those that require little in the way of power output or advanced technology, such as mag weaponry, or which match the weaponry they already know, such as fractal mining and demolitions weaponry.
Their most popular piece of equipment is the Fractal DBC, a retuned version of the common Frag Borer or a battlefield-scavenged fractal cannon. In exchange for a much shorter range, the fractal resonance in the target builds up much faster. This makes it a perfect tool for mining operations and also a discouraging weapon on the battlefield when used against enemy vehicles! Boromites tend to call it a ‘Demolisher’ due to its short range demolitions effectiveness. An advantage is that the focussing crystals can be returned in the workshop (not on the battlefield!) back to frag borer settings, should that be necessary.
In practice, Virai do not retune scavenged fractal cannon, preferring them in the DBC mode. They have been known to retune frag borers back to the normal frag borer mode, however, when their algorithms indicate that range and safety is the better course.
Other weapons used in the deep mines or as strategic weapons are the Fractal Disintegrator, sometimes known as a Fractal Bombard, and the Heavy Frag Borer. In addition, ecurity-focused Secondary Architectors are known to repair and reuse scavenged mag heavy support and heavy mag cannons.
If they can, Virai swarms tend to optimise production schedules and produce specialised crew constructors for use in managing their support weapons. These are identical to normal constructor drones, but have only a single set of appendages geared up to handling the weapons and heavy mining tools. Occasionally, normal constructors can be seen managing these weapons but this only indicates that the production Secondary Instance hasn’t yet optimised production!

Weapon blisters with the appropriate weapon – often scavenged by the Virai – and their crew constructors are currently available in the following packs. The most common Virai weapon, the Fractal DBC, is available on its own or as part of a Mining Supervisor’s team.
